Latest advice for homeowners
Local estate agency Brown & Merry is urging sellers who wish to move in early 2017 not to delay marketing their property until the New Year. Brown & Merry predicts heightened seasonal activity during the Christmas to New Year period, with millions of potential buyers actively starting their search online for properties to buy.
“Christmas is a very busy time for the housing market, when families come together and think about plans for the new year," says David Plumtree, Group Estate Agency Chief Executive at parent company Sequence. "Millions of people search for properties over the festive period so it makes sense to have everything in place to capture this market and take advantage of the surge in buyer interest."
Last Christmas, Rightmove and Zoopla - widely regarded as the most popular property websites - received a huge spike in traffic to their sites: Rightmove received over 1.3 million visits to its site on Christmas Day alone, rising to 3 million on the 30th December and a further 4 million visits on the first working day of the New Year. Meanwhile, Zoopla reported 7.2 million visits between Christmas and New Year’s Day*. Brown & Merry fully expects this year to be as busy and with a heightened number of enquiries from interested buyers into its branch:
"It is a seller's market and we advise sellers to get their house on the market now to reap the rewards of this window of opportunity," continues David. "Sellers should be looking to instruct an agent that has the tools and know-how to guarantee maximum exposure for their properties during this festive peak.”
